Alabama - Flag Facts
Alabama's state flag was authorized by the Alabama Legislature in 1895. The design is a crimson cross of St. Andrew on a field of white. The bars which form the cross must be no less than "6 inches broad" and extend diagonally across the flag from side to side. The Act did not specify whether the flag should be square or rectangular.
The Flag of Alabama also has its own official salute, much like the Pledge of Allegiance. It reads, "Flag of Alabama, I salute thee. To thee, I pledge my allegiance, my service, and my life."
